Privacy Policy

What we collect depends on how you use HotSeat. You can play core modes without creating a HotSeat account. Signing in lets us save your profile, saved packs, and subscription across sessions and devices.

If you play without signing in

Solo play, Pass-the-Phone, and multiplayer rooms work without Google sign-in. We create a random guest session identifier through Supabase so a room can synchronise players and answers in real time. It is not linked by us to your name or email address.

If you sign in with Google

We receive the account information made available by Google, such as your name and email address. We also store the information you create or choose to save while signed in: your display name, opinion answers, derived profile scores, Opinion Identity, saved packs, and subscription status.

If you subscribe to Plus

Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never receive or store your card number — only a Stripe customer/subscription identifier and your subscription status.

If you submit community feedback

The "Suggest a Pack" and "Share Feedback" forms collect the content you submit. Those submissions are not associated with your signed-in HotSeat profile in our application database.

We don't currently use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we don't collect device identifiers, location, contacts, or camera/photo access.

• To run gameplay itself — showing questions, syncing answers in a room in real time, and tallying results.
• To build and update your Opinion Profile, Opinion DNA, and saved packs when you're signed in.
• To process payments and manage your subscription tier via Stripe.
• To keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations.

AI-generated Opinion Identity. When your Opinion Profile has enough signal, we send derived dimension scores and a short list of recurring value labels — not your raw answer text, name, or email address — to Anthropic through the Claude API. Anthropic returns the written interpretation displayed on your profile.

Where privacy law requires a legal basis for processing, we process information to provide the features you request, to meet legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in operating and securing HotSeat. We do not use your Opinion Identity to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it for advertising. We work with a small number of service providers, each only for the purpose below:

These providers may process information in countries other than yours. Their processing is governed by their own contractual and legal obligations. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of HotSeat, our users, or the public.

We retain account and gameplay information for as long as needed to provide HotSeat, maintain your account, resolve disputes, enforce our terms, and meet legal obligations. The appropriate period depends on the type of information and why we hold it.

You may request deletion of your account and associated HotSeat data by contacting us at the email below. Subject to applicable law and records we need to retain for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, or accounting purposes, we will delete or anonymise the information associated with your request.

• Access, correction, and portability — you can edit your display name in the app; contact us to request access to, correction of, or a copy of other personal information we hold about you.
• Deletion — see Section 4.
• Playing without an account — HotSeat's core gameplay never requires signing in.
• Managing your subscription — cancel anytime from "Manage Subscription," which opens Stripe's billing portal.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, and complain to your local data-protection authority. We will respond to rights requests in accordance with applicable law.

We use technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls for account data and authenticated service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

HotSeat is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in their region. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page whenever we make changes, and post material changes here before they take effect.
